Police arrests fake female customs officer for swindling Lagos, Abuja residents



Police Detectives from the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, have launched a manhunt for a fake female Customs officer, who specializes in defrauding unsuspecting buyers of auction vehicles for the past 15 years.



The suspect, identified as Rakiya Musa with the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) claimed to work directly with the Controller General of Customs.


The fake customs officer was alleged to have swindled many people in Abuja.


The fake customs officer, after she suspected that she was being trailed, allegedly escaped to Lagos where she met her Naval officer’s man friend.



Investigations by the police detectives on her trail also indicated that the suspect was lodged by her lover at a guest house situated at the Naval dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos.


A source said that trouble started after the Naval officer introduced buyers of auction vehicles to her and she offered to assist them to get three units of Toyota Sienna bus ,the 2006 model and a Toyota Highlander , 2005 model for the sum of N1.2m each.


She told her victims that three vehicles, would cost N3.6 million, but requested that only N2 million be paid to her as installment, while the balance should be paid at the delivery of the vehicles.



The police source said that a month later, the fake officer called for the balance to be paid to facilitate easy clearance of the vehicles, including driving them down to Lagos, while she collected the money.



The source further stated that when it was getting obvious that Rakiyat may have defrauded them, the matter was reported at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters and investigation commenced.


The source disclosed that Rakiyat Musa relocated to Abuja where the police arrested her friend, and detained him while she was being tracked.


A lien,was placed on her bank account and one of the days she went to the bank, the suspect was arrested and moved to Lagos.


A police source said that, “At Lagos, the police applied for a remand warrant for one month and it was granted; so she was detained for one month while investigation continued.
